W3: WIDENS: "The Future of Public Safety Wireless Communications"

The purpose of the workshop is to present the ongoing work in the field of future public safety wireless commmunications: The workshop will present the rising needs in public safety communications from the users point of view and relate this to the ongoing standardisation initiatives. The workshop will present the work carried out by the WIDENS consortium which proposes technology for building an ad hoc hotspot answering the public safety requirements and targeting the offer of new services. The specifications of the WIDENS demonstrator will also be presented. The workshop will also open up the discussion by relating this work to other complementary initiatives in Europe, as well as present some of the challenges for research and system studies.
